Top 5 of 2016 – #3: Moving and Shaking!

December 30, 2016 by Creating Together

2016 was an action-packed year for Creating Together. Stay tuned to see our top 5 favourite things this year!

Our families love to jump, wiggle, hop and dance – luckily we have many opportunities to do so every week. We know how important physical fitness is to our wellbeing and, at Creating Together, families can join in a number of programs that encourage kids and adults alike to get moving. The Rainbow Fun activity program in particular is always a hit!

Top 5 of 2016 – #4: Exploring our Neighbourhood

December 29, 2016 by Creating Together

2016 was an action-packed year for Creating Together. Stay tuned to see our top 5 favourite things this year!

We love getting to know more about our neighbourhood. Whether spending time in parks and splashpads,  having circle time at a nearby seniors’ centre, or participating in street festivals, our families get to explore all that Parkdale has to offer. Here are a few photographs from one of our best-loved neighbourhood activities – visiting our local fire station! Many thanks to the great staff and firefighters at Fire Station 426 for the tour and for letting us see the trucks up close!

Top 5 of 2016 – #5: Day Trips

December 28, 2016 by Creating Together

2016 was an action-packed year for Creating Together. Stay tuned to see our top 5 favourite things this year!

Summer was all about making the most of great weather and having little getaways as a group that we otherwise might not be able to do. We filled our summer months with fun experiences: picking strawberries at Downey’s Farm, seeing the animals at the Toronto Zoo, splashing around in the water playground at Cedar Park, and so much more. The children had a great time trying new things – they truly enjoyed the sunshine. We can’t wait for more fun trips next year!

Decorating our Christmas Tree!

December 13, 2016 by Creating Together

If you haven’t already seen it, be sure to come by and check out Creating Together’s beautiful tree. All last week, our families made decorations and and helped our team put up lights and bunting. It isn’t too late to contribute your own decorations – stop by our craft table and use some glitter and paint to make something wonderful to add to the tree.

Morning Glory Muffins

Makes 12 muffins

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole-wheat or white whole-wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats, plus 2 tablespoons for garnish
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil, melted
  • 2 cups shredded carrots
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened shredded coconut, plus 2 tablespoons for garnish
  • 1/2 cup raisins

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Coat a 12-cup muffin tin with cooking spray, or lightly grease with oil.
  • Mix the whole-wheat flour, 1/2 cup oats, baking powder, cinnamon, salt and allspice in a medium bowl.
  • Whisk the eggs, applesauce, honey and vanilla in a large bowl. Whisk in coconut oil.
  • Gently stir the flour mixture into the applesauce mixture until just moistened. Fold in carrots, 1/2 cup coconut and raisins.
  • Divide the batter among the muffin cups. Sprinkle with the remaining 2 tablespoons each oats and coconut.
  • Bake the muffins until they spring back when lightly touched and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with only moist crumbs attached, 30 to 35 minutes.
  • Let stand in the pan for 10 minutes then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Enjoy!
