Farewell, and Thank You Emily!

April 13, 2017 by Creating Together

The parents, caregivers, staff, and especially the children of Creating Together would like to give a shout out to Emily, and huge gratitude for what she has given to our community during her internship with us all over the last couple of months. As you can see, Emily engaged with the children in a beautiful way, and they really took to her. She also made sure to connect with parents, connecting them with resources and support while she was here supporting our programs. Emily’s placement with us ended this month, and while we are sad to see her go, it has been wonderful to have her share her knowledge, compassion, and love of children with the Creating Together community.

We would also like to share with you some of Emily’s last words:

I have a learned a lot this semester at Creating Together. I learned the importance of being at the child’s level, because it is important for me to have eye contact with them and be at their level when playing. I also learned the importance of family-centred care. Since Creating Together is not a day care, parents come and interact with their children, have a chance to interact with other adults, and also allow their children to interact with other children. It is important for children to have different environments of play and also to be able to make connections with their peers and learn certain behaviours. I will go on to my next placement or future job with these concepts in mind.

Thank you for having me!

We are sad to see you go, Emily, but certainly wish you all the best as you complete your program at Ryerson.

Farewell, and thank you Emily, for all you have given!

Greetings From Mary

March 28, 2017 by Creating Together

Hi!

My name is Mary Stefi Tantoco and I am a second year ECE student from Humber College. I was born in the tropical country of the Philippines on the year of 1996 and moved in Canada last 2008.

There are many reasons (personal particularly) why I entered the ECE field and to make it simpler I love and enjoy working with kids! My desire to make learning a more positive experience for them has only increased with time and because of that I realized that children teach us more meaningful things as much as we teach them. They make us appreciate the little things in life and I genuinely love to be working with children around me.

Throughout this 4th semester, I will be assisting the Creating Together Community Centre from January 25th– April13th of 2017.

Feel free to contact me if you need any assistance of anything and I will be glad to help. You can contact me at stefitantoco@gmail.com.

I am looking forward to learn and work with all of you!

Warm Welcome to Emily!

March 8, 2017 by Creating Together

If you haven’t already met her, swing by Creating Together on a Tuesday or Wednesday and meet our new student, Emily DeHaan. Emily comes to us from Smithville, a small town in Niagara, and is here in Toronto completing her third year of a four year Nursing program at Ryerson. She’ll be staying with us until April 12th.

We are thrilled to bring Emily’s experience, inspiration, and love of children to the families of Creating Together. Join us in giving her a warm welcome!

When asked what brought her to Creating Together for her placement, Emily describes growing up in a large family, her love for babysitting children, and her experience volunteering at Sunday school.

Committed to helping families lead healthy lives, she wants everybody to know that she is here to help, and hopes to share knowledge to support our community of families:

Emily is genuinely looking forward to her time with the families and children of Creating Together, and welcomes questions, conversation, and feedback. Don’t wait too long – she is only with us until April 12th!

So if you have a question, come and speak with Emily in person at CT on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. She also welcomes emails or calls: edehaan@ryerson.ca  |  905-975-4006.

Student Spotlight: Introducing Eno Obeng-Nkansah

November 10, 2016 by Creating Together

We at Creating Together are fortunate to host placement students from post-secondary institutions across the Greater Toronto Area each year. This series will introduce you to the dedicated students who bring their energy to our centre each semester.

“Hello parents and guardians, my name is Eno Obeng-Nkansah. I am currently in my second year of the Early Childhood Education Program at Humber College. During my time here at Creating Together it is my personal goal to make each day a great day for every child. I requested to do my placement at Creating Together because I want to explore what a Family Resource Centre can offer the community. I want to develop the skills associated with being a part of a family support program. What I like best about spending time at Creating Together is witnessing the relationships between the children and their parent(s) or caregivers. I am looking forward to meeting everyone and learning from you all.”

Student Spotlight: Introducing Emily Rickson

October 27, 2016 by Creating Together

We at Creating Together are fortunate to host placement students from post-secondary institutions across the Greater Toronto Area each year. This series introduces you to the dedicated students who bring their positive energy to our centre each semester.

“My name is Emily Rickson, and I am attending my second year of the Early Childhood Studies program at Ryerson University. I am doing my placement at Creating Together to learn more about families and the resources that the community provides for them. Creating Together provides a safe place for parents and caregivers to play with their children and to get to know other families in the area. As a placement student I hope to contribute my creativity by developing activities for the children while providing a fun and warm environment. I have really been enjoying learning with and from the families, while being a part of this community.”
